What types of technology are available to patrons and staff? (Computers, e-readers, portable devices, etc.)

Public: public computers, multifunction fax/copier/printers, wireless
Staff: computers, tablets, eReaders, multifunction fax/copier/printers

How many computers are available at Woods Memorial Library?  How many are used by the staff?*

I found that there are 27 computers at Woods Memorial Library available to patrons and 5 available to people who need them for job help. They have a one and two hour time limit, respectively.

What are the different types of software the library uses?

Typical installations include: Windows 7, MS Office 2010, Millennium
Some staff have specialized software – Adobe CS6

How are the computers networked?

Pima County IT maintains the network.

What type of internet connection is available to patrons?

Not sure what you mean here. We have high-speed connections at all branches plus wireless.

What service provider do you use?

I believe it’s Cox.

Cox Communications is a local internet service provider in Tucson.

What type of security measures are taken on the internet (virus protection) as well as the library’s physical technology equipment?

We use Sophos and the public PCs also have DeepFreeze.

What type of web portal does the library use? Who maintains it?

Currently our website is using an in-house CMS and flat files. We are moving to BiblioCMS and Core as we speak. The Communications & Systems Office in the Library maintains the website, catalog interface, and staff intranet.

How does the library maintain and repair their technology? Is there someone on staff who can fix a general problem if it arises? Do the librarians have basic training on troubleshooting?

We rely on Pima County IT for all maintenance. All staff who work the floor do basic troubleshooting. We also have computer monitors to help at most branches.

What would you say is the library’s annual proportion of spending for technology resources?

I do not know.

What do you offer for assistive technology?

Is there a new piece of technology the library wishes to acquire?

Nothing has been planned for this fiscal year that I am aware of.

Do you offer a unique service at this library or in this county in general that others don’t?

We are the only public library system in our county, so many of our services are unique!
